About this event

Hosted by Elect Her, this free webinar will explore how Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority women can deal with, overcome and tackle racism and prejudice in political life.

This webinar will be an opportunity for women from our community to pose questions to amazing trailblazers who have sought elected office or are currently in elected office about the realities of being a politician from an ethnic minority background. It will be a frank webinar and Q+A session about how the Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority women in our community can tackle racism, discrimination and prejudice on their way to elected office.

Kaukab Stewart MSP

Kaukab is an SNP Member of Scottish Parliament for Glasgow Kelvin. She is the first Woman of Colour to be elected to Scottish Parliament.

Cllr Valerie Bossman-Quarshie

Labour Councillor For Bunhill Ward in Islington.

Natasha Asghar MS

Natasha is a Senedd Regional Member for the Welsh Conservative Party in South Wales East. She is the first Woman of Colour to be elected into the Welsh Senedd.

Fatima Joji

Scottish National Party - 2021 Holyrood candidate

Cllr Hina Bokhari London AM

Hina is the Liberal Democrat Londonwide Assembly Member in London City Hall. She is also a Councillor and was the first Muslim female Merton Councillor serving West Barnes ward in 2018.

There will be a 45 minute Q&A session - so get your questions ready!

This event is for Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority women of all ages and experiences interested in or already involved in politics. This event is open for women across the political spectrum who are at any stage of their political journey. Whether you are just getting started in politics or are a seasoned veteran, this event is for you.

This webinar series is funded by Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust and co-hosted with Elect Her and Glitch as part of the 'Equip Her' project- to provide women from underrepresented communities with everything they need to stand up and be counted.
