Support for Elected Women

We are committed to supporting those who have made their way into political office.

Being in political office can be hard work, lonely and frustrating, but having the empathy and guidance of those who understand and are in the same position can help make it an easier journey. We are committed to supporting those who have made their way into political office, so you can access a supportive community to help you during your term and feel supported to stand again.

Councillors’ Coffee Time

Out with the old boys’ network, we’re building new support for women in local politics. For women to be able to participate, progress and stay in local politics, we need new forms of networks and support that work for us.

All women serving as councillors across Britain are invited to join our gathering space as we come together and build a new form of support. By bringing women in councils across Britain and varying levels of experience together, we hope to spark skill-sharing, strength and encouragement. Whether you’re newly elected or on your third term, we’d love for you to join us in creating community and sisterhood.

Coaching

We want to make sure that every woman in our community who is new to elected office enters with the skillset she needs. We connect women in our community with professional coaches to help them overcome challenges and build confidence. If you’re interested in finding out more about our coaching programme, please get in touch with our team.

If you’re a coach looking to offer pro-bono support to newly elected women, we’d love to hear from you too!

National Association of Local Councils

The National Association of Local Councils supports councillors in England and also provides networks to connect councillors and provide mutual support and shared learning. They offer a women’s group, as well as one for LGBT+ councillors, young councillors.

The highlight has been cross-party collaboration - these Elect Her workshops have enabled me to meet so many inspiring amazing women from different parties and as Jo Cox put it, we have more in common and should support each other to make the world a better place!”

Digital Self-Defence

Unfortunately, we know that being in the public eye can result in online abuse and violence. Our friends at Glitch have designed this course to equip you with the skills you need to be safer and more resilient in digital spaces so you can feel confident using your voice online and tackle any abuse you experience, knowing how to report and prevent it.

Deaf and Disabled Women in Politics Network

If you are d/Deaf, have a disability or a long-term health condition, we would love for you to join our network. Facilitated in partnership with our friends at Centenary Action Group and the Disability Policy Centre, this informal cross-party community space is an opportunity for women to come together, share experiences, resources and opportunities every other month.

To join the network, please email the Disability Policy Centre who will email you the upcoming dates to attend the sessions: contact@thedpc.org.uk
