Community councils need you!

Representation matters - the perspectives of women change the conversation and are needed more than ever.

We don’t know the demographics of community councils across Scotland as the data isn’t captured, but in local government the percentage of women stands at 35% so we assume it is something similar.

Community councillors are representatives of their community. They are consulted by the council on local planning applications, and they can contribute to other local government consultations. They can also get involved in local campaigns to improve their area and organise local community activities.

It is therefore important for community councillors to represent the full diversity of our communities, made up of local people, making decisions to impact local life for the better.

We know the barriers facing women in politics. We spend everyday challenging them, breaking down walls and delivering the support women need to stand for election and succeed. Why? Because we believe the world will be a better place when more women are in power. We are committed to building a world where at least 51% of elected officials are women, at every level.

That’s why the team at Elect Her work to motivate, support and equip women in all their diversity to stand for political office. We need women like you to reach equal representation.

So, if you are passionate about your local area and want to have a say over decisions being made, get in touch, join our free community and read on!
