Currently there are 29 men and not a single woman on the Western Isles’ Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar. The last local Government elections in 2017 saw none of the 7 women candidates elected. May 2022 is the next opportunity to right this wrong and the team at Elect Her want to support the women of the Western Isles who want to be part of the change!
Elect Her and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are coming together to facilitate an online workshop for women from the Western Isles on the 18th January 2022, 7-8.30pm to encourage more women from the local area to consider standing for elected office in the local Government elections taking place in May 2022.
During this 90-minute online workshop we will demystify the process of standing for elected office and encourage women in the room to consider it. During the 90-minute session we would cover:
What is politics and why should I consider it?
Who are you and what is the change that you want to make?
How can I stand as a candidate?
What is it really like being a local Councillor?
What is stopping you? let’s make a plan to overcome that!
What support is available to me if I decide to do this?
