WOMEN IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT: BE A COUNCILLOR

Are you curious about becoming a Councillor? Are you working out your next steps on your political pathway and are interested in learning more about this role? Do you want to know more about what a typical day for a Councillor looks like? Then this workshop is for you!

This workshop is in partnership with the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Be A Councillor initiative. The workshop will provide a safe space for women to hear from Councillors already in elected office. It will provide the skills and knowledge needed to put yourself forward for the role ahead of the 2022 local elections!

This workshop is a part of our Getting Ready To Stand series, and will provide an opportunity for you to understand the role of a councillor in Local Government; District, County, City or Borough Councils.  You will hear more about what councils do, how Councilors fulfil their responsibilities, the time commitment, skills and experiences required to take on the role. This is the opportunity to ask all the questions you have for others in the role and consider whether now is the time for you to put yourself forward to represent your local community.

We will be joined by amazing women who have been successfully elected as Councillors who will share their experience of the job. We hope the workshop will provide you with the opportunity to consider whether now is the time for you to put yourself forward to represent your local community as a Councillor in time for the 2022 local elections.

We will be joined by:
