This event has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances and will instead take place in autumn 2022.
This webinar has been curated to acknowledge and celebrate the brilliant work of working class women in activism and politics. Women who are forging a path and breaking down barriers to support others, and make an impact within their communities and in elected office. This conversation will explore how historically marginalised women’s access to income, time and networks impacts their capacity to campaign and be politically active.
Working class women activists are leading the changes they wish to see in their communities, building a more just society from the ground up often in the face of challenges, including lack of time, money and networks. From opening food banks and mutual aid groups to fighting for their right to safe and affordable housing and lobbying for increases to minimum wage, this is challenging work. Diverse in experience and approach, they are united in their fight to ensure that people are not left behind in policy, legislation and society at large.
In this free webinar we’ll explore:
How a lack of privilege can impact women’s voices being heard and valued.
How we can shift our perceptions to recognise why our lived experience is needed in politics
How access to income, time and networks impact women's capacity to campaign and be politically active?
What needs to change/ would make a difference to women to encourage them to consider seeking political office
We will be bringing together brilliant women from low income backgrounds in activism, campaigning and politics to hear their lived experiences. This webinar will explore the ways in which campaigning, activism and politics interlink and will look at the various issues and concerns preventing working class women from seeking political office and progressing once they enter into politics.
There will be a live Q+A session for you to ask our panelists any questions.
