A Week in the Life of... Katie McSherry our Programme Manager!
By Katie McSherry
People often ask me what my job entails, so in the spirit of demystifying life for women in and around politics, here's a snapshot of last week...
🌈 Monday: I started the week with strategy meetings, talking about where we want to take Elect Her in the next three months, two years, and even ten years. Later that evening, I attended the #AskHertoStand Celebration hosted by 50:50 Parliament in Westminster. ⚖️
⚡Tuesday: I hosted the #InspireHer event with UK Parliament, bringing together women from Shout Out UK, Girlguiding, and I have a voice CIC to meet 1:1 with women MPs to hear what being an MP is really like and to consider their own political future. (Its always amazing to see the impact of these spaces - two women from our last event are now MPs!) 💪🏼
🏴 Wednesday: I supported my Welsh colleague in hosting not one, but two workshops on "How to Become a Member of the Senedd" in Wales. We brought together aspiring women leaders with four current MSs to share advice and personal stories. Then the Scotland team and I prepared for upcoming "How to Become an Member of Scottish Parliament" workshops. 🏴
☕ Thursday: I co-hosted Councillors Coffee Time, a cross-party informal drop-in for women Councillors from across Britain to come together to reflect, share challenges, and champion one another.
❄️ Friday: My team were at the MyLifeMySay #NextGen24 conference, hosting Sharon Gaffka in conversation with Amber Rudd. Meanwhile I took the day to rest - walking in the snow through the hills in the sunshine, then cheering on my son singing at our local festive lights switch-on. 🎄
🏆 Amidst all that, we received the fantastic news that Elect Her had won the Apolitical Foundation Political Leadership Entrepreneur Impact Award!🎉
It's weeks like this that remind me why I do what I do. Creating a more equal future is hard work, but incredibly rewarding, and I'm so grateful to be part of such an amazing team.
